Make an enormous impact for the animals - DONATE!
It’s Dog Walk time again, and it’s going to be bigger and better than ever before! (I can say this every year, right?) I’ve been working at the SPCA of Wake County for almost four years now. I guess that would make this my fourth Dog Walk (and my third Woofstock, since you know, it’s the third Woofstock ever!). I could probably tell you a gazillion stories about how working at the SPCA is so funny and (at times) frustrating and personally and professionally rewarding. But ultimately, I think the most important thing is the THOUSANDS of North Carolina pets we help save every year (really – 3500 in 2015 and 3300 in 2016 and 3400 in 2017- WOW!).
This is where I put a little blurb about how much the SPCA means to me, and really, it means the world. I mean, I do spend at least 40 hours a week there, but it’s so much more! It’s a source of happiness and success and frustrations every single day of my life. Really, you can ask me on any given day, “what did you mess up today” and I’d have at least one story to tell. But it’s a place where I grow and laugh each and every day. I suppose I should stop talking about myself. As I’ve said, there are many awesome and less-awesome parts of this job, but seeing a stone-faced 20-something man get completely GIDDY over his new kitten is something that keeps things in perspective for me. It’s easy to get caught up in a number - we did X number of adoptions today. But EACH of those is just the beginning of an amazing story. And I get to start these adopters on this awesome journey with a new companion. Words can’t express how lucky I am each day to do what I do. Have I rambled enough about my part in the SPCA’s story?
This event is a big deal for the SPCA of Wake County. Because the SPCA isn’t affiliated with any other humane organization (like the ASPCA or the Humane Society) and we don’t receive any funding from the government (like your local county shelter does), donations big and small make a world of difference for the pets here in Raleigh! I would be so grateful for any donation you can put forward to help thousands of pets find their forever homes!
