Make an enormous impact for the animals - DONATE!
It’s Dog Walk time again, and it’s going to be bigger and better than ever before! (I can say this every year, right?) I’ve been working at the SPCA of Wake County for almost three years now. I guess that would make this my third Dog Walk (and my second Woofstock, since you know, it’s the second Woofstock ever!). I could probably tell you a gazillion stories about how working at the SPCA is so funny and (at times) frustrating and personally and professionally rewarding. But ultimately, I think the most important thing is the THOUSANDS of North Carolina pets we help save every year (really – 3500 in 2015 and 3300 in 2016 - WOW!).
As part of the Adoption Team, I get to see so many happy endings (or should I say beginnings?) and get to talk to lots of crazy dog and cat (and rabbit and guinea pig) people about their pets and how excited they are to add more to the family. It’s so easy to forget what an impact pets have in our lives, but the people we speak to everyday remind us. It’s not unusual for someone to come in looking for a new companion and to say; “My previous dog passed away many years ago and I’m still not over it!” and they’ll tear up just telling me about him or her. I still cry when dogs get adopted on Pitbulls and Parolees, even when this is what I’m so blessed to do every day! Sometimes I just look at my beautiful Ruby and think about how lucky I am to have found a companion so loving and sweet and cuddly and happy and energetic and awesome (I mean, I really could go on and on and on). Happy families walking out the door with a life-changing addition keeps me going and keeps me motivated to continue supporting the awesome work the SPCA does every single day.
This event is a big deal for the SPCA of Wake County. Because the SPCA isn’t affiliated with any other humane organization (like the ASPCA or the Humane Society) and we don’t receive any funding from the government (like your local county shelter does), donations big and small make a world of difference for the pets here in Raleigh! I would be so grateful for any donation you can put forward to help thousands of pets find their forever homes!
