Remembering Gizzy

For the first time in seven years, I’m walking in memory of Gizzy, neither with nor in honor of him. For the longest time, I didn’t think I would participate in the K9-3K this year because I’m still just so very sad over the loss of my giant goofball. However, life goes on and every week, I’m reminded of the fact that the SPCA brought Gizzy and I together, just it has done and will do for countless other families and pets. It is an honor to support this organization and its good work, and if Gizzy was here, he would agree. Our community is fortunate to have this resource available to us, and that it continues, on a daily basis, to support life-saving and life-changing initiatives for homeless pets.

Geronimo won’t walk – he’s good for about a block, and then he is done. I’ll be out there, though, with Gizzy very much on my heart, and remembering a comment made by a good friend upon his death in July. She reminded me that Deborah Steely, who was THE head cheerleader of Gizzy’s fan club, would be waiting on him at the Bridge when he arrived. That visual makes me smile, and reminds me that it’s because of the SPCA that these two special souls were in my life. Please, please consider supporting the SPCA by making a contribution to the dog walk this year – the button to donate is just below Gizzy’s picture, and it’s super, super easy to help out. When you give, you’ll be helping the next crew of adoptables, and honoring my Gizzy, who was surely the biggest dope ever and is sorely and profoundly missed every single day.
